Today Wendy discharged a patient who has just completed a 3 year course of rehabilitation for severe facial palsy. The lady has made great progress in her facial rehab, and has moved from having very little movement in her right face, and marked problems with eating, drinking and non-verbal communication, to a point where she now has no problems with any of those functions.
This individual posted the following quote from author Haruki Murakami on her Facebook page today, in recognition of the journey she has taken with her facial palsy:
“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in.”
