As everyone is aware, going into shops or onto public transport now necessitates the wearing of a mask. How does this feel when you have facial palsy? We have had some patients speak of it as “a relief” as they feel that other people are not focused on/distracted by asymmetry at the mouth, whereas other people have commented that other people seem to find it more difficult to hear/understand their words.

The charity Changing Faces has an information page all about these issues, which can be found here.

If anyone wants to speak to our facial physiotherapists about issues with wearing a face mask, feel free to telephone the clinic and we’ll be happy to have a discussion.
