When someone has facial palsy, the affected eye is very likely to suffer from problems as a result of reduced tear production.
Signs of Eye Irritation:
• Dry eye or a gritty sensation
• Burning or eye pain
• Decreased or blurry vision
• Sensitivity to light
• Eye watering – yes, surprisingly an eye which is overwatering may still be dry!
• Red eye
If any of the above symptoms are experienced, it is essential that the person takes advice on how to care for the eye. This guidance may be provided by an ophthalmic clinician, or by a specialist facial physiotherapist.
