In addition we are now pleased to offer small hands on workshops at The Lindens Clinic. These workshops will have a maximum of 10 participants thus allowing greater interaction and a tailoring of the courses to meet your needs as a clinician.
BASIC FACIAL
This course provides a basic introduction to the theory of Trophic electrical stimulation and its application in the treatment of facial palsy and peripheral nerve injury. Additional topics include:- assessment procedures, care pathways for acute palsies, use of sEMG and exercises programmes.
The course is suitable for beginners and clinicians with experience of treating this client group but with little or no experience of TES.
ADVANCED FACIAL
The advanced course moves on to consider residual palsies with particular emphasis on the approach to treating Synkinesis. It involves a more in-depth consideration of the use of EMG and the value of biofeedback techniques for determining home exercise programmes.
The focus is on progressing treatment and includes Ramsay Hunt, Acoustic Neuromas, Childhood palsies and Congenital Palsies.
Finally the course will address the often complex issues of discharge, building self confidence and coping strategies.
People attending this course must have attended a Basic Course and have read A Loss of Face 2nd Edition. A degree of clinical experience is assumed.
GENERAL
The course discusses the development and theory of Trophic Electrical Stimulation and its applications to various client groups. The techniques maybe used for a wide range of musculoskeletal and neurological problems to correct muscle imbalance and retrain appropriate motor functions using EMG biofeedback.
The course will enable clinicians to select suitable programmes for their patient to pursue home stimulation as a supplement to their current regime. Full assessment and review techniques will be taught, as well as the use of EMG to set realistic treatment goals and outcomes.
